About
Novocarry is an insulin carrier developed by Komal Panda, using thermoelectric cooling with Peltier chips. It maintains insulin at around 5°C by circulating air with fans and heatsinks shaped like bullet cartridges. Designed for portability and ease of use, it offers ample storage for insulin vials and accessories, with a dual-battery system ensuring uninterrupted cooling. Inspired by her father’s diabetes struggles, this solution won the 2024 James Dyson Award.
How it works
Novocarry works using thermoelectric Peltier chips to maintain a consistent temperature of around 5°C, ideal for insulin storage. The system integrates small fans and heatsinks shaped like cartridges to circulate air efficiently. A dual-battery setup ensures uninterrupted cooling, even during travel. The device is compact and user-friendly, designed to carry insulin vials and essential accessories, offering convenience and reliability for diabetics. This innovation aims to reduce dependency on traditional refrigeration and cater to individuals on the go.
Applications
Portable Insulin Storage: Ideal for diabetics who travel or live in areas with unreliable refrigeration.
Temperature Stability: Ensures insulin is kept at 5°C, preventing spoilage.
Emergency Use: With dual-battery backup, it offers uninterrupted cooling during power outages.
Accessible Healthcare: Useful for rural regions where cold chain logistics for medicines are limited.
